Every year our Northern Gold Coast accommodation welcome high school graduates all over the country to celebrate the Schoolies Week. This huge event usually takes place between mid November through mid December at Surfers Paradise just minutes away from our premium Broadwater Shores Apartments.
It is considered to be the rite of passage for each graduate as they venture out into adulthood. This is a great time for them to have fun and socialise with their friends without being accompanied by their parents. It is estimated that 35,000 school leavers will visit and celebrate their graduation at the Gold Coast particularly at Surfers Paradise. Our Runaway Bay accommodation can provide you or your children a cozy and secured dwelling while having the best time at the Schoolies Week.
Due to its fine sand beaches, vibrant nightlife, and activities exclusively for school leavers, Surfers Paradise continues to be one of the most visited places during the Schoolies Week. There are also lots of local volunteers that patrol the beaches and streets to ensure that school leavers are safe. Moreover, law enforcements units patrol the parties and clubs to prevent underage drinking. They also look out for “Toolies” who usually cause trouble during the Schoolies Week.
To make sure you or your children can enjoy the Schoolies Week without trouble, The Broadwater Shores team has compiled some safety tips for you:
1. Always bring your ID and wear your wristband
Most of the Schoolies events require school IDs before letting you in. Moreover, IDs provide vital information about you and who to contact in case of any emergencies. Wristbands are also given to participants and it is also a means to identify school leavers from Toolies and Foolies.
2. Communication is key
You and your mates probably have different plans for the day, always make sure that your know where to find your friends vice versa. Know where and who to call when an emergency arises. Its always better to look after each other’s safety.
3. Don't binge drink and no drunk driving
Make it a point to always drink in moderation. Excessive drinking can alter your thoughts and actions which can lead to unlikely circumstances. Aside from unruly behaviors it can also lead to alcohol poisoning. It is also important to designate a driver before heading out to parties as this could greatly avoid vehicular accidents. Better yet, call a cab or ride a bus so you can come home safely.
4. Beware of Predators
Always be keen of strangers that surround you while partying during the Schoolies Week. Don’t let someone else buy you drinks and never leave your drinks unattended. There are many cases of drink-spiking that occur during this festive week. Some might even fall prey to sexual predators while under the influence. There are also alarming number of sexual assault cases during Schoolies Week. It is always best to look after your safety and well-being.
5. Don’t do drugs
It’s either jail, hospital, or worse case, the bone yard. You would not want to end up in any of those places. We all know that drugs are bad, but as always it’s good to remind ourselves that it is harmfully fatal and illegal.
6. Steer clear of violence
With hordes of people gathered in one place and with free flowing alcohol it is very likely that tensions will soon follow. Once violence starts to boil over, it is best to walk away from it and avoid being caught up on a brawl. Nothing good can ever come out from violence. Always remember that you are in the Gold Coast to have some good clean fun.
